Terror bird/ titanus

10 Most Amazing Extinct Animals)

The terror bird, or titanus, is a massive carnivorous bird which stood about 7 feet tall, and lived in the Americas. 5 million years ago, it migrated from South America to North America, where it competed with predators like smilodon, and the dire wolf. Like it's relative, T-Rex, Titanus used it's large head to bring down it's prey. But rather than using powerful, crushing jaws to kill, it used a razor beak, which it could use to slam prey by moving down it's neck. Scientists are not entirely sure how this huge, flightless bird went extinct. There are several theories. One relates to the fact titanus layed it's eggs on the ground, and then did not guard them from predators, like wolves. A second theory suggests climate change, which this bird could not survive, and another suggests decline of prey. Whatever the cause, the path of these birds has just run short.
