I can tell you from personal experience that prescription drugs can be very addictive. I am currently recovering from an addiction to opiate pain pills. Oxycodone was my drug of choice. To help put it into prospective, Heroin is an opiate. They're both made from the poppy plant. Opiates are very dangerous if not taken with a doctor's supervision. Going through withdrawal can be dangerous too. Anytime I've gone through withdrawal I've had to be placed on suicide watch due to possible relapse. I was in high danger of accidentally overdosing. I can't begin to describe the pain. The intense nausea, the high fevers, the insomnia, I prayed to God to give me strength. I was terrified of dying from this. Today the urges continue, but not like before. I feel better. I'm sleeping, eating, I can speak without slurring, I can see what's going on, and most importantly I'm feeling emotions again. Addiction is horrible, and if you can avoid it with your prescriptions, please do. Ask your doctor about the chances of addiction and what to do if you start becoming tolerant to the medication. This is preventable. Unfortunately, all I can find on the statistics for prescription medication is on non-medical use. Addiction is going up though. Please, be careful.
