This was used to treat morning sickness in pregnant women from 1957 to 1961. One of the worst side effects was that babies were born with shortened, deformed or non existent limbs. Because prenatal testing was non-existent the only way one found out about the side effects was to wait nine months until the birth of the child. After being on the market it was eventually banned for many years and then was resurrected for treatment of other diseases. There were an estimated 20 000 victims, many of whom are still alive today.
