The War of the Oaken Bucket
(Reader Contribution to 7 Strangest Wars)
This war began when soldiers from the Modena region of Italy invaded the Independent State of Bologna and stole a bucket. Bologna responded by declaring war on Modena in order to recover the bucket, they lost and Modena got to keep the bucket (known as the Secchia repita) where it is on display to this day at the bell tower of the Ghirlandina.
