Nyaminyami - The Zambezi River God

This is a depiction of the Zambezi River God. His name means meat-meat. It is believed that he caused the 2 1000 year floods on the Zambezi River during the construction of the Kariba Dam in the late 50's. The coffer dam, which was built to hold back the water during construction was washed away twice in two years by extremely high flooding. The locals believe that he requires sacrifices to appease his bad temper hence the name Nyami Nyami. Google him and find out more about him.
