Pulsing Noctiluca

Another nighttime flasher I used to see in the St Mary River estuary off Solomon's Island in Maryland is a small jellyfish Noctiluca species. They are a flattened ovoid about 3-4 inches long which flash at night. Experiments have shown that if you keep them in the dark and after several days flash a light at them briefly, they'll return the flash syncronically about 24 hrs later. Lovely to watch at night flashing in the chop.
