Chlorine and the cutting of onions
(Reader Contribution to 10 Strangest Allergies)
That's right, I'm allergic to chlorine, no swimming pools for me, I break out in a rash and get a horrible headache, I can't be near anywhere near bleach or my throat closes up, sometimes I can't even sleep between hotel sheets! I'm also allergic to onions, but not to eating them. The chemical they release when you cut them that makes most people cry actually closes off my airway. I can't slice onions or even be in the same room as someone who is.
