Happened To Me Twice
(Reader Contribution to 7 Amazing Anesthesia Awareness stories)The first time I woke up in the middle of ankle surgery following a motor cycle accident and began pulling the tubes out of my nose telling them that I was choking. Someone said "that is normal" and I stopped struggling. Then someone shouted "put him under" and I drifted off shortly after.
The second time was when I had all four wisdom teeth extracted. The surgeon didn't believe me when I told him I was awake the whole time. His face went pale when I recounted detailed conversations that occurred. I tried to use meditation the whole time to get past the pain of the incisions and other work they were doing. For the most part it worked, put it seemed like an eternity.
