Who sells his daughter for beef and beer? Apparently this guy.

Ever find that sometimes you just don't have the cash for those bare necessities, things like beef and beer? Well this man, Marcelino de Jesus Martines of Greenfield, California seems to have the solution: sell your daughter. Martines, 36, sold his 14 year old daughter to 18 year old Margarito de Jesus Galindo of Gonzales, California in exchange for approximately $16000 in cash as well as various cases of drinks and meats.
However, Martines apparently failed to check on whether or not Galindo could be trusted to keep his end of the bargain, and when the 18 year old failed to pay Martines he went to the police to get his daughter back. Police reports state that all parties involved are from the Western Mexican state of Oaxaca, where such trades are considered "noble and honorable" among the people. However, in America such trades are considered "against the law", leaving Martines with a culture shock that will cost him a few years behind bars.
