Macaco Tião

(Reader Contribution to World's Most Bizarre Political Candidates)


"Macaco Tião" a monkey in the Rio de Janeiros´ zoo had an unnoficial candidacy in the oficial mayor election of 1988 (back when the elections were not eletronic) He had over 400.000 votes and would be placed 3rd, but since he was not acknolegded as a real canditade, his votes were anulled.
Tião died in 1996, of diabetes, and the mayor of the time decreed an oficial mourning of 8 days in the zoo.
Nowadays you can se the Tião´s statue in the entrance to the zoo.
